The boys put on a great performance at their latest GUP test for karate. Since Drew is now a red belt, he only tests every 6 months and was not involved in this test. Max and Jake did a great job with all the required elements and have passed with flying colors. The big story of the night, other than a visit from the Tang Su Do federation founder CS Kim attending and judging the tests, was Max. Due to Max's great technical form, he was asked to come up to the front of the room while everyone watched as he did some "forms". Forms are a set of coreographed moves which mimic both fighting and defensive positions. There are a number of forms the students learn - I don't know how they keep it all straight...
Max demonstrates a form for the white belts Even though we complain due to the time involved when CS Kim attends a testing (the testing lasts about 3 hours when he is there - often an hour less when he is not), we are so very fortunate that he is local to our area and is so involved in the testing process. He truly tries to make the children better in both mind and body - always stating that they should respect their parents and be polite as well as many other important elements.
Jake has his uniform signed by Master Kim Max has advanced to an orange belt and Jake has advanced to yellow. The next test will be in early March, where Max will go for his green stripe on his orange belt, Jake will go for his orange belt, and Drew will go for this first blue stripe on his red belt. Drew with his proud instructor, Master Venturino The kids just love their iinstructor, Master Venturino. He is absolutely great with the kids. We are very fortunate that he is their instructor, he is very patient and almost nurturing to the kids.
