If you've been following along, you know that Drew is playing every possible basketball function this fall/winter. He is playing in the RAA league in the 1st & 2nd Grade group, attending a weekly Paul Seneca basketball camp, and playing for the St. I's 3rd/4th Grade team. The St. I's team was supposed to be for home games only since Drew is only 2nd Grade currently. Well, since the team only has 9 players including Drew and another 2nd grader, they thought it best to include them in all the games - plus, they have a willingness to play hard!
Drew warms up with a layup at St. Raphael So, they have 3 games out of 14 under their belt now. At this level, they don't keep score in these games, but unofficially, they are 1 and 2. The practices are continuing when they can get court time. They are improving steadily, but it seems that half the battle at this age is getting everyone to pay attention to what's going on. There have been a number of passes missed due to folks being out in left field. It all comes with time and repetition. Drew has some bad habits we're working to break (not having the hands up, running and not looking back for the ball, not following the ball, not being aggressive enough, etc) We have been pleasantly surprised with his rebounding ability. If it's anywhere near him, he gets it. The second game he even picked off a pass. We're really proud of Drew! He's been really gung ho despite a LOT oof practices and games. As a 4'-7", 91 pound 2nd Grader, he is feeling the benefit of being big and tall. |
